Description
Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre has an opportunity for an Undergraduate Nurse Employee (UNE) to join our team. As a UNE at our rural hospital, you will work primarily in acute care which includes a 19-bed acute care unit and an 18-bed combined acute/transition unit. As an UNE working at our facility, you will be a vital part of our collaborative health care team. Previous experience will be valuable in transitioning to the Rural Nurse role; however, you will be provided with mentorship and education opportunities to increase competence and confidence in the rural Registered Nurse role. You will be expected to provide safe and competent care to our patients in a collaborative, family centered care approach. As a member of our team, you will be flexible in what area of the hospital you work in as priorities will change rapidly between each unit. Ponoka, which means Elk in Blackfoot serves a large First Nations community. Our town is located along Highway 2 in the Battle River Valley within an hour drive to major cities. Our community provides a great opportunity for families, adventurists, and people wanting a rural life.
The Undergraduate Nursing Employee (UNE) position provides an opportunity for the nursing student employed as a UNE to consolidate the knowledge and skill acquired in their approved nursing education program towards competency in the range and complexity of Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) practice. The UNE is an unregulated member of the collaborative health care team who provides patient centred care with the supervision of the RN or RPN. The nursing activities performed, and level of supervision required are determined by legislation, standards of supervision outlined by regulatory colleges, Alberta Health Services (AHS) policy, educational preparation, practice setting, complexity of the patient, level of risk involved, and competency of the UNE.
Current enrolment in an approved Alberta nursing education program leading to initial entry to practice as a registered nurse or registered psychiatric nurse. Successful completion of 3rd year of an RN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RN education program; or currently in the final year of an after-degree RN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RN education program; or successful completion of 2nd year of an RPN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RPN education program.
