Challenge yourself in Corrections Health! Our close-knit healthcare team is all about collaborative practice in this unique and challenging clinical setting. Reporting to the Corrections Site Health Services Manager, the Registered Nurse (RN) role is an important part of our multidisciplinary team at the Calgary Remand Centre. Our population presents with dynamic and complex needs in the provision of care within custody and criminal justice system. The RN works as a member of the team collaborating on the delivery of comprehensive care to meet the needs of individuals in the correctional environment within level of competency. The RN provides leadership in nursing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, preventing illness, injury and disability. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. An Undergraduate Nursing Employee (UNE) position provides an opportunity for a UNE to develop further competency in the range and complexity of Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) practice. The nursing activities performed and level of supervision required is determined by legislation, standards of supervision outlined by professional associations, AHS and competency of the UNE. You will be guided by your education, experience and demonstrated skill level to play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Current enrolment in an approved Alberta nursing education program leading to initial entry to practice as a registered nurse or registered psychiatric nurse. Current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (CPR) certificate. Successful completion of 3rd year of an RN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RN education program; or currently in the final year of an after-degree RN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RN education program; or successful completion of 2nd year of an RPN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RPN education program.
Demonstrated understanding and commitment to Alberta Health Services policies, procedures, and applicable legislation. Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills including ability to complete duties with tact and diplomacy. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team including external agencies. Demonstrated strength in working in a complex environment utilizing critical thinking.
Recent experience in Correctional Health preferred.
