Emergency Health Services - Alberta (EHS‑AB) is one of Canada’s largest and most integrated emergency medical systems, delivering life‑saving care to more than 750,000 Albertans each year. Through a province‑wide service delivery model integrating dispatch, ground ambulance, aeromedical response, and specialized clinical programs, EHS‑AB provides coordinated emergency care across diverse urban and rural communities. EHS-AB is seeking a motivated and experienced leader for the role of Operations Supervisor, Ground Ambulance Services - Calgary Zone. This frontline leadership position plays a key role in ensuring safe, responsive, and effective ambulance operations within the Calgary Zone. Reporting to the Manager or designate, the Operations Supervisor contributes directly to operational readiness, workforce support, and the achievement of EHS-AB operational priorities. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to practical and innovative operational solutions while supporting effective and responsible use of resources within a complex operating environment. The Operations Supervisor provides day to day operational leadership for EHS AB ground ambulance services within the Calgary Zone. This role supports high demand operations by ensuring effective resource deployment, operational oversight, and timely response to emergency medical events, while remaining closely connected to frontline practice. You provide direct, visible, and supportive leadership to a multidisciplinary team of more than 20 frontline providers, including Advanced Care Paramedics, Primary Care Paramedics, and Emergency Medical Responders. You actively advocate for staff through coaching, guidance, and practical support to manage clinical complexity, operational pressures, and workplace challenges. You foster a respectful, psychologically safe workplace that supports high quality patient care. The Operations Supervisor makes real time operational decisions, manages frontline issues, and responds to dynamic service demands. This role balances patient care needs, workforce well being, and operational efficiency, with particular focus during high acuity events and periods of system strain. You contribute to practical, innovative solutions to operational challenges, support effective use of limited and shared resources, and identify opportunities to improve workflow and service delivery. This role works collaboratively with dispatch, Zone leadership, and internal/external partners including emergency departments, healthcare facilities, municipal agencies, and public safety partners to promote consistent decision making and coordinated emergency response. As part of the EHS AB operations leadership team, you support workforce engagement, continuous improvement, and provincial priorities while demonstrating professionalism, accountability, and values based leadership. This role requires strong presence, sound judgment, and clear, respectful communication.
Graduate of a Paramedic program recognized by the Alberta College of Paramedics. Currently registered in good standing or ability to register with the Alberta College of Paramedics. Minimum of three (3) years experience in an Emergency Service role with a minimum of two (2) years progressive leadership experience in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity.
Valid Alberta Class 4 Operators License with no more than 6 demerits. Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.
Diploma or degree in healthcare administration, business, or leadership. Demonstrated pattern of professional and personal development. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, influential skills, and client-focused orientation. Ability to foster partnerships to achieve organizational goals ideally within a unionized environment.
