As an integrated member of our Central Zone Spiritual Care team, you support the spiritual and emotional health of patients and families across diverse beliefs, cultural perspectives, and practices. You will support a dynamic interfaith community that embodies AHS’s patient first approach. Reflecting a holistic, compassionate methodology to care, the SHP advances an evidence based spiritual health care approach. The successful candidate will rely on accomplished interpersonal communication, prioritization, and self-awareness skills to liaise with faith leaders, healthcare professionals, coordinate site events and be responsive to the changing needs of a caseload. Additionally, your responsibilities will involve supporting patients and families in illness adjustment, chronic disease care, end-of-life care, mental health, and brain injury. As a Clinical Psychospiritual Education (CPE) trained Spiritual Health Practitioner (SHP), you will be equipped with the necessary skills to provide patient-centered spiritual health care: screening, assessment and interventions. As an evidence-based practitioner you will addresses spiritual distress (experiences of loss of meaning and connection in relation to self, others, and what one considers ultimate/transcendent) and promote spiritual well-being (experiences of meaning and connection in relation to self, others, and what one considers ultimate/transcendent). Aligned with the AHS mandate of a patient and family centered approach to care, you will be accountable for providing leadership in the profession for the assigned site(s), consultation, expertise, and direct service delivery in all matters related to spiritual health care in the context of health and care delivered at the assigned site(s). Spiritual Care Professional Practice is to be delivered in alignment with and advancement of AHS provincial professional practice standards, frameworks, and guidelines.

Master’s in Theology and/or Spirituality/Religion or a clinically related field with confirmation of educational equivalency obtained from the Academic Assessment Committee of the national professional association, Canadian Association for Spiritual Care/Association canadienne de soins spirituels, (CASC/ACSS). 2nd Advanced Level, Clinical Psychospiritual Education (CPE) with commitment toward certification as a spiritual care practitioner, (CASC/ACSS) within three years.
