Speech Pathologist II

Across from the Alberta Children's Hospital, the Child Development Centre is a warm & vibrant workplace with team members providing service to children & their families in a tertiary level outpatient setting. Reporting to the Unit Manager for Child Development Services, the registered Speech Language Pathologist II works collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary diagnostic team that provides assessment and consultative services to children and adolescents (ages 0-18). Referrals cross a variety of neurodevelopmental queries and disorders which may include Autism Spectrum Disorder, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, and diagnosed or undiagnosed genetic disorders with developmental sequelae. In this advanced clinical practice role, the Speech Language Pathologist II has a sound knowledge of evidence-based practice and conducts assessments to contribute to a differential diagnosis and profile all aspects of verbal and nonverbal communicative function and social interaction. In addition, the Speech Language Pathologist may facilitate group parent sessions, and participate in case conferences, family conferences, program development, and professional education. Services are provided within the context of patient and family centered care. This is an onsite position.

As a Speech Language Pathologist, you will provide clinical professional practice both independently and as a part of a collaborative team, which may include external partners. You will be responsible for providing prevention, health promotion, identification, assessment, intervention, and case management. You will participate in the planning, coordination and delivery of rehabilitation services in collaboration with patients/clients, families, healthcare professionals and other partners. Your leadership and interpersonal skills will aid you in supervising students and providing clinical guidance to other staff as appropriate. You will use your clinical expertise to inform ongoing quality improvement, service integration, and program development.

Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Active or eligible registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA).

Five years of clinical experience assessing and supporting children and adolescents with a variety of neurodevelopmental disorders. Demonstrated understanding and interpretation of psychometric measures. Familiarity with at least one of the following structured observation tools - Rapid Interactive Test of Autism in Toddlers (RITA-T), TELE-ASD-PEDS, and Autism Diagnostic Observation Summary (ADOS). Competency and proficiency in administration of standardized language and communication tools specific to the school-aged population (e.g., Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals Fifth Edition, Comprehensive Assessment of Spoken Language -2; Social Language Development Test - Elementary and Adolescent versions). Knowledge of relevant resources and ability to refer and provide recommendations to other health care professionals or community services when appropriate. Ability to work with families using a family centered perspective and practice. Ability to work with families with a neurodiversity affirming lens. Ability to collaborate effectively with other disciplines in a diagnostic team, community service providers and partners.

Knowledge of community resources for children and adolescents with ASD and/or speech and language delays/disorders. Registration with Speech-language and Audiology Canada (SAC). Interest in facilitating group presentation. Working knowledge and experience documenting in Connect Care.
