Description
Located in N.E. Calgary, the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) is an acute care hospital offering both inpatient and outpatient services. The PLC has over 600 inpatient beds, including Medical, Surgical, Pediatrics, Women’s Health and Critical Care. The PLC is the Vascular Centre for Southern Alberta, Southwestern Saskatchewan and Southeastern British Columbia. The Allied Health Department at the PLC is comprised of Social Work, Rehabilitation, and Spiritual Care staff. These staff work as vital members of the interdisciplinary team to provide patient and family-centered care throughout the hospital. Under general supervision from the Clinical Leader and Allied Health management, the successful candidate will be expected to provide Social Work services primarily to the Emergency department, and as needed, to provide coverage and support to the acute care units. The position involves shift work which includes days, weekends, and evenings. These services are primarily clinical in nature, and may include psychosocial assessments, identifying & addressing social determinants of health, crisis intervention, safety planning & risk assessment, system navigation and discharge planning. This position requires the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and yet function as part of the interdisciplinary team. At all times the Social Worker ensures he/she is compliant with ACSW standards of practice. Please note that all caseloads within the Allied Health department are subject to change based on operational needs.
As a Social Worker III, you will perform either advanced level assessment and treatment or act as a clinical lead. You will work with or within teams to provide health care services for patients with complex and multidimensional medical, psychosocial, environmental and instrumental needs. You will provide advanced clinical services, consultation to the interprofessional team and patients/families and supervision of students and team members as assigned. You may also act as a clinical lead providing leadership in the planning, development, and delivery of services in a specific area, as well as staff development, quality improvement and evaluation or research activities as identified by the needs of the service area(s).
Master's degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).
Relevant experience working in an emergency department within the last 3 years. Relevant experience working in Mat/Child and NICU units within last 3 years. Recent experience in crisis intervention and working with patients/families facing chronic and/or life-threatening illness required. Strong understanding of trauma-informed care principles and crisis intervention techniques. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with members of the interdisciplinary team, patients and families in a dynamic health care setting. - Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills. - Excellent organizational and time management skills to efficiently organize and prioritize workload to keep pace in a busy multi-disciplinary patient care. Demonstrates behaviours consistent with the values of AHS - Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence, and Safety. Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification required. Experience working with diverse communities, groups and/or organizations (i.e. ethno-cultural, equity-setting, racialized, faith-based, LGBTQ2S+, vulnerable, marginalized, persons with disabilities, and persons across all age groups, etc.).
Minimum 2 years experience working as a medical Social Worker in an acute care setting is an asset. Previous Connect Care training an asset.
