Description
The University of Alberta Hospital is one of Canada’s leading clinical, research, and teaching hospitals, treating more than 700,000 patients annually from western and northern Canada. The hospital offers a wide range of diagnostic and treatment services, including specialized inpatient programs, as well as a vast number of ambulatory clinics. This position is part of the centralized Rehabilitation and Allied Health Program, responsible for providing social work services to the adult population across acute care, with a focus in the Neurosciences area. The candidate will be a highly motivated, confident, and dependable individual who collaborates with team members, patients and their families in a fast-paced environment ensuring trauma-informed, equitable care. The candidate will hold working knowledge of health care systems, SDoH, and community resources to support psychosocial interventions such as complex discharge planning, financial assessments, crisis intervention, decision making, advocacy, and referring to internal/external agencies. As a Social Worker II you are part of a team driven to provide quality patient-centered care though best practices and evidence informed approaches and in alignment with AHS Values.
As a Social Worker II, you will be a member of an inter-disciplinary team and provides a range of social work services to patients and their families. Your services may include: psychosocial assessment, resource-based interventions, individual, group and family treatment, risk screening, counselling, case management and coordination, transition or discharge planning, and prevention, promotion and public awareness activities.
Completion of bachelor's degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).
Minimum 2 years’ experience working as an RSW in inpatient healthcare settings. Current Basic Life Support (BLS-HCP) certification is required. Able to respond promptly and decisively using critical thinking and problem-solving skills to analyze situations and determine effective and efficient outcomes. Strong professional judgment, initiative, and effective time management skills are necessary to prioritize and complete assigned tasks. Ensure concise, timely and accurate communication and collaboration with colleagues, patients and families. Experience working with diverse cultural groups and vulnerable populations. Experience with actively and positively contributing to an interdisciplinary team is essential.
A Master of Social Work degree (MSW) is an asset. Knowledge and ability to use computer applications such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook). Experience with Connect Care is preferred. Experience with relevant legislation including Personal Directives Act, the Adult Guardianship and Trusteeship Act and complex placement processes is an asset.
