An exciting opportunity exists for a Service Worker I to work with the multidisciplinary team among the Peds Surgical Ambulatory clinics - this includes Peds Ophthalmology, Peds ENT, & Peds Surgery Clinics at the Stollery Children’s Hospital. Reporting to the Unit Manager of the Pediatric ENT, Ophthalmology and Surgery Clinics at the Stollery, the service worker I is an integral member of the ambulatory team. The Service Worker ensures that specialized equipment used in the Ophthalmology Clinic is cleaned and maintained according to manufacturer and AHS infection prevention and control standards and collaborates with others in the clinic and Environmental Services in cleaning and disinfecting various areas of the clinic environment. Other duties include set up of equipment in patient care sites, traveling to other departments, transporting equipment on a daily basis, rooming patients and stocking of supplies. The clinic Service Worker is required to provide patients and families with a clean, comfortable and safe environment by utilizing judgment in the execution and prioritization of general housekeeping duties, linens, supplies, waste handling and maintaining patient confidentiality. This role may include other duties to assist with meeting patient care and the operational needs of the program. The Service Worker works independently by prioritizing and making decisions regarding workflow as it relates to the scope of employment for the Service Worker. This position may work in any of the Surgical Clinics and float to other areas in the Surgical Program.

As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.

Grade 12 or equivalent.

BCLS-HCP certification required. Must demonstrate strong communication skills with the ability to follow direction in a concise and accurate manner and communicate clearly and effectively. Must be able to follow verbal & written instructions. Demonstrate ability to walk and/or stand for long periods of time. Must possess verbal, numerical and clerical abilities; visual and auditory acuity; motor coordination; eye-hand coordination. Must be able to perform heavy duties requiring pushing, pulling, and working above the shoulder level. Reliable, cooperative and ability to demonstrate effective service attitude.

Must be adaptable and flexible to meet the changing needs and demands of patient care. Previous hospital and clinic experience an asset. Current or previous experience in pediatric ambulatory clinics preferred. Knowledge of hospital equipment and procedures preferred.
