Description
The Service Worker I (SW I) working within Integrated Operating Centre at the Royal Alexander Hospital is primarily responsible for portering patients and equipment to various areas on the Royal Alexander campus, including institutions connected by the tunnel system. This fast paced, dynamic role has the opportunity to work with multiple modalities and disciplines while providing exceptional patient and family centered care. As a Service Worker I - IOC Porter your responsibilities will include delivering patients to and from medical/surgical unit in a safe and professional manner, delivering equipment as requested, communicating effectively with other health care professionals, adhering to all health and safety policies and procedure, routine cleaning of equipment as needed and collaborating to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our transport team. Service Worker 1 may also be assigned as dispatcher and will be responsible for receiving and recording requests, prioritizing movement calls regarding patients, sterile/clean equipment and instruments, lab calls, dirty equipment/instruments and dispatches porters accordingly.
As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.
Grade 12 or equivalent.
Valid N95 fit testing completed within the last 2 years. Valid Basic Life Support: Health Care Provider Level (BLS/HCP) Fluent in speaking/reading/writing English. Must be able to follow verbal & written instructions. Demonstrate ability to walk and/or stand for long periods of time and lift 22.5 kg, or assist in lifting up to 157.5 kg on a regular basis. Must possess verbal, numerical and clerical abilities; near - visual and auditory acuity; motor coordination; eye-hand coordination. Reliable, cooperative and ability to demonstrate effective service attitude.
Prior experience as a porter working with patients and medical equipment within an Acute Care Facility.
