The Service Worker I assists nursing staff in maintaining a hygienic, well-equipped and safe outpatient care environment. Responsibilities include but not limited to: preparing and cleaning hemodialysis equipment for patient use, restocking all bedside supplies, transporting patients, water and blood specimens, sanitizing, charts and supplies as well as performing other duties as assigned. This position is located at the RAH Hemodialysis Satellite Unit on RAH Campus. As a casual employee (on a call-in basis), you will not have a regular schedule and there will be no minimum hours guaranteed for any week or month.

As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.

Grade 12 or equivalent.

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) required. Must be able to lift a maximum of 40 lbs. several times a day. High Degree of motivation and good organizational skill required. Motivated team player with experience in a fast-paced environment. Upon successful completion of the 5 training shifts, the service worker will be able to proceed to unit to start five buddy shifts as assigned by the hiring manager. Must meet weekly milestone to pass to the following week.

Previous training or recent Service Worker experience in a hospital setting is desirable. Familiarity with Fresenius hemodialysis equipment and supplies is an asset. Demonstrated good communication skills, able to read, write and speak English fluently. Demonstrated ability to work as a team, worker under supervision or independently. Current Service Worker in Alberta Kidney Care preferred.
