Description
This opportunity with the Emergency Department at the Strathcona Community Hospital. The facility offers a 24/7 Emergency Department, a variety of outpatient Ambulatory, Laboratory, and Diagnostic Imaging services. Under the supervision of the Manager, the Service Worker I is responsible for the transportation of supplies, equipment and patient portering within the site. The Service Worker I provides patients with safe, courteous and prompt transportation between departments, as well as distributing supplies/equipment and linen. Clear communication is required to effectively outline adequate equipment/supply levels within the department, as well as coordinating with other departments (i.e. CPSM) on site. The successful incumbent is also required to collect soiled supplies and equipment and dispose of same in appropriate areas on site.
As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.
Grade 12 or equivalent.
Previous experience within an Emergency/Acute Care facility is required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS - Heart and Stroke AED Level C) required. English language comprehension, both oral and written is required. Ability to meet the physical demands associated with the position (i.e. walking/standing for long periods of time; pushing/pulling stretchers, carts, and wheelchairs on a regular basis; bending, lifting and assisting with team lifting) is required. Must be capable of working in a dynamic and fast paced environment while meeting the demands of the position. Good communication, interpersonal skills, and motor coordination a necessity.
Preference will be given to those applicants with previous Connect Care training. Knowledge of hospital equipment and procedures an asset. Ability to work in a team environment is essential. Ability to perform a series of routine tasks under minimal supervision. Reliable, cooperative and able to demonstrate effective service attitude.
