Senior Financial Analyst

Reporting to the Executive Director of Finance, the Senior Financial Analyst supports Primary Care Alberta’s (PCA) annual budgeting and forecasting processes including validating and reconciling budget and forecast information, calculating financial implications of planning decisions, implementing and maintaining budget and forecast processes, and providing advice to key budget stakeholders. This is a dynamic position that requires interaction with different areas of the organization and requires the ability to create strong partnerships with key stakeholders. This position requires a broad financial knowledge and the ability to apply it in a financial planning and budgeting context. This position assists with the development and maintenance of budget and forecast related reporting requirements, reconciling and testing budget systems, and assists with ad hoc projects as required. This position also works directly with Human Resources to calculate and model costs associated with collective bargaining, severances, and compensation assumptions including wage rate and benefit changes, job reclassifications, and other compensation assumptions. This position assists with the overall planning process including calculating and analyzing PCA’s budget and forecast assumptions. This position assists in determining the annual budget and forecast for the organization and implements the budget per direction from PCA Executives and Finance senior leadership. This position monitors and reports on functional centres related to high level compensation (mostly related to compensation planning assumptions and accruals prior to finalization of union collective bargaining and NUEE agreements). This position is a key member of the Finance Team and contributes to the overall objectives by ensuring that budget and forecast related information is reliable, complete, and accurate.

Assist with preparation and review of external and internal reporting requirements. Assist with the preparation of budget and forecast submissions. Analyze budget and forecast related information on a monthly and quarterly basis. Assist with budget and forecast scenario planning including calculating and analyzing financial implications of budget and forecast planning assumptions (including those related to compensation). Respond to inquiries from budget and forecast stakeholders by researching, liaising with others, and analyzing information. Coordinating resolutions for budget related issues including identifying options and related risks. Identify opportunities for improvement and assist in implementing changes to processes where required. Collaborate with Labour Relations and other areas in Human Resources to understand, analyze, and calculate compensation related amounts, including participating in the collective bargaining processes. Complete special projects requested to support the budgeting processes. Contribute to the success of the Finance Team by participating in regular team meetings, supporting Finance goals and priorities, identifying potential areas of risk, and looking for opportunities to be more efficient and effective.

A minimum of a post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related discipline. A minimum of 3 years in an accounting, financial planning, or financial advisory role. A strong commitment to operating within a team environment and the ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve common goals. Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with others. Demonstrated ability to think and act strategically and solve problems with minimum supervision. Demonstrated ability to work comfortably in an ambiguous environment, including having strong time management and organizational skills. A strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite applications.

Pursuing or completion of a professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA). Experience working with Hyperion and Oracle GL or similar systems. Experience in a healthcare environment.
