Description
The Senior Consultant, Provincial Medical Affairs, is a key professional role within the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Portfolio, reporting to the Program Director, Physician Compensation and Care Model Planning. This position is accountable for the planning, development, and delivery of strategic projects that enable integration and alignment of Alberta Health Services (AHS) Medical Affairs and medical staff-related strategies across zones and, when appropriate, with other AHS portfolios. A core focus of the role is the development of provincial guidelines, policies, standards, and strategies to promote consistency, transparency, fairness, administrative efficiency, and flexibility across the organization.
Project work is primarily centered on clinical and administrative physician role design and service model planning, including associated contracts and compensation strategies, as well as support for clinical Alternative Relationship Plans (ARPs). The role demands strong project leadership skills, as well as the ability to lead complex initiatives that influence physician engagement, care model innovation, and organizational alignment. Success in this position depends on the ability to build and sustain strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. The Senior Consultant collaborates with Medical Directors, Directors of Medical Affairs, Associate Chief Medical Officers, and Chief Medical Officers. Externally, the role engages with partners such as the Alberta Medical Association, College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, and Alberta Health. While specific portfolio assignments may vary between individuals and over time, the core responsibilities of the position remain consistent, requiring a strategic mindset, collaborative approach, and a comprehensive understanding of the healthcare system.
Experienced in project and program management with strong knowledge of business planning, modeling concepts, and project management principles. Demonstrated ability in strategy and policy development, leadership, change management, and risk management. Skilled in systematic problem solving and data analytics, with a client-focused approach and commitment to delivering high-quality services. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly and succinctly convey complex issues and options. Effective facilitator with strong organizational abilities and a strategic mindset that considers long-term goals, assesses implications, and evaluates options. Known for managing change and developing innovative solutions for complex, diverse challenges. Proven ability to foster collaboration and build partnerships across a large, complex, and unionized organization, including with public agencies, government bodies, boards, and committees.
