The Senior Advisor is a key role within Employee Relations (ER), reporting directly to the Manager, Psychological Health & Safety (PHS) in ER. This position provides expert consultation, and strategic guidance on high risk or politically sensitive ER matters. The position is responsible for developing, promoting, and implementing policies, programs, and initiatives that foster inclusive, respectful, PHS workplaces aligned with organizational goals. The Senior Advisor offers expert advice and training to HR specialists, centers of expertise, senior management, and other stakeholders on complex issues such as human rights legislation, respectful workplace practices, psychological health and safety standards, conflict resolution and employment legislation. The role focuses on eliminating systemic barriers to workforce diversification, inclusion, retention, and engagement while supporting initiatives that build PHS workplaces. Key responsibilities include leading the development and implementation of programs, training, and resources based on evidence-based practices and industry standards; maintaining online tools and resource materials; and contributing to strategic planning, evaluation of ER and HR programs. The Senior Advisor builds strong collaborative relationships with operational leaders, HR teams and leads meetings, committees, and project teams. They will work collaboratively with key stakeholders to develop appropriate supports and build organizational competence around PHS, respectful workplaces and diversity and inclusion. The position also oversees data collection, analysis, and reporting to inform decision-making to develop action plans based on legislation and best practices. The also manages multiple projects and priorities, including audits, stakeholder engagement, program evaluations, prepares reports and recommendations for leadership.

Key roles of the Senior Advisor include: Training and resource development and delivery. Establishes educational and informational programs to support building leadership, Human Resources (HR), Workplace Health Safety (WHS) and other stakeholder competencies around Psychological Health & Safety (PHS), Diversity & Inclusion (D&I), and Respectful Workplaces (RWP). Build resources, processes, and tools, including online resources with provincial applications for PHS, D&I and RWP. Provide Client Support & Stakeholder Engagement. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with HR teams, operational leaders, unions (as applicable), and key stakeholders. Provide expert consultation, recommendations, and engagement on PHS, D&I, and RWP, with a focus on complex situations. Coach and mentor HR professionals, WHS, leaders, and stakeholders to build capability, understanding, and effective risk management. Communicate complex and sensitive information effectively, demonstrating cultural competence, professionalism, and alignment with ER’s vision. Program Development, Management & Reporting. Conduct best practice research to inform the development of policies, guidelines, programs, tools, and training resources. Communicate and implement changes to programs, policies, and procedures through targeted communications and training. Issues Management & Concerns Resolution. Manage and evaluate complex human rights, discrimination, and harassment complaints and investigations. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legal jurisprudence and human rights legislation; translate legislation into practice to ensure compliance. Provide strategic consulting to leaders to support RWP, support management and resolution of systemic issues, workplace disputes, and employee issues. Provides professional consultation or subject matter expertise on ER matters.

Undergraduate or post-secondary degree in Human Resources, Psychology, or related area. 7-10 years of HR experience or experience working in Psychological Health & Safety, Diversity & Inclusion and/or Respectful Workplaces.

CPHR Alberta Designation, Psychological Health & Safety Advisor Training.
