Description
We are seeking a compassionate Respiratory Therapist (RT) for a casual role at Westlock Healthcare Centre and Westlock Continuing Care. This role offers a unique opportunity to provide essential respiratory care across a broad patient population while working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team. This is a pivotal role where you will be able to practice autonomously in supporting multiple areas of care. This position offers broad scope of practice, strong clinical autonomy, and direct involvement in critical decision-making. RTs develop meaningful relationships with patients and families, gain exposure to varied cases (from emergency airway management to chronic care), and strengthen critical thinking and adaptability. Smaller team sizes foster close collaboration and a supportive, cohesive care environment. Westlock is located on Treaty 6 territory and Métis lands and draws people to its balance of affordability, strong community connections, and high quality of life-benefits that can be harder to find in larger urban centers. With minimal commute times, residents can enjoy a comfortable lifestyle in a welcoming, close-knit community where neighbors know and support one another. Residents also have easy access to outdoor recreation, including nearby lakes, trails, camping, and year-round activities like fishing and snowmobiling. Located about an hour from Edmonton, Westlock combines the advantages of rural living with convenient access to major amenities, shopping, and services-making it an ideal place for individuals and families who value space, community, and quality of life.
As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.
Active or eligible registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CRTA).
Certification in Basic Life Support - Healthcare Provider from the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
New grads are welcome to apply. One year experience with rural generalist practice is an asset. One year of recent experience (within the last 5 years) with respiratory therapy services in an acute care, emergency department or hospital based ambulatory outpatient setting is also preferred.
