If you are committed to practicing your full scope of practice as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and living in a vibrant city close to the mountains, skiing, hiking, biking and nature a position is available for you at the South Health Campus (SHC) in Calgary, Alberta. The SHC Respiratory Services department’s service expectations are centered in the four pillars of patient and family centered care, collaborative practice, innovation and wellness. The RRT provides leadership and expertise in the field of Respiratory Therapy and works collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to assist in the diagnosis and management of patients with cardiopulmonary and related disorders. At SHC, the RRT staff work in all of the areas of the hospital: ED, ICU/CCU, NICU and ward setting. The RRT is supported to work to full scope of practice which includes arterial line insertions and adult / neonatal intubation. As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients, develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.

As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).

This RRT position includes the following physical requirements: being on one’s feet for extended periods of time (standing/walking), exposure to infectious diseases, and hazardous situations for which they have been trained; be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients, be able to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment such as life support equipment up to 20 lbs. Current Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada BLS certification. One year full time experience working in acute care within the last two years.

Current independent RRT acute care experience in ICU, ED, Wards and NICU settings. Current NRP/PALS/ACLS certifications. CSRT Registration. Excellent verbal and written communication and conflict management skills. Demonstrated leadership skills.
