Description
This is a part-time temporary clinical position with the Primary Care and Chronic Disease Management (PC/CDM) Community Respiratory Services Team. The incumbent will be required to travel to various sites located across the Edmonton Zone. Services provided include assessment and treatment of cardio-respiratory disease and related conditions in clinic situations, point of care PFT and ABG testing, provision of respiratory services to Designated Assisted Living residents, provision of asthma and COPD chronic disease management services to adult and pediatric groups or individuals and provision of pulmonary rehabilitation program services. Duties also include provision of smoking cessation programs for the general public and training and in-service programs to other health care professional groups. Other services are provided as directed and assigned.
As a Respiratory Therapist, you will assess patients, develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans, and monitor their progress. This role requires you to collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments. You will be responsible for providing training and assisting health care providers in the use and care of various respiratory diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. Active or eligible for registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).
Successful completion of the National Respiratory Therapy Certification Exam as administered by CARTA or the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT), as administered by the CBRC, is required. Current basic life support (BLS) is required at all times. Current registration in good standing as a Certified Asthma Educator (CAE) and COPD Educator or Respiratory Educator is required. Previous experience in primary care, acute care and community settings is required. The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, will have strong problem solving/critical thinking skills, and will be able to work both independently and within a multi-disciplinary team.
Completion of the TEACH and QuitCore training programs or current registration as a Certified Tobacco Educator is preferred. 5+ years of experience in hospital and community based respiratory care is preferred.
