Breton Long Term Care is a 23 bed unit located in a rural setting where Registered Nurses work as a charge nurse, within an interdisciplinary team environment to provide resident and family centered care. The Registered Nurse / Registered Psychiatric Nurse - Continuing Care (RN/RPN) will be required to provide leadership including direction, supervision, mentoring, constructive feedback and resident care coordination to other professionals and unregulated staff. In this case coordination role the RN/RPN must have the ability to use critical thinking skills to plan, assess, implement and evaluate resident centered care. This environment is suitable for candidates who have a strong interest and skills in providing care to the elderly client, including those diagnosed with Alzheimer Disease or other dementias. Breton is a progressive community in central Alberta, located 48 km east of Drayton Valley or 100 km southwest of Edmonton. Breton is surrounded by lakes and woods and is home to the Coyote Lake Nature Sanctuary, which supports 154 bird species, 22 mammal species and 266 plant species including a number of rare and uncommon orchids. The sanctuary is open to the public for daytime visits and self-guided hikes. Several organized sports programs are available including baseball, soccer, a dance studio and gymkhana club and the town is building a beautiful new Community Centre. There’s always something to do in Breton, whether it’s visiting with friends and family, taking a walk on the paved walkways, or playing a round of golf at one of the two golf courses.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Ability to meet the physical demands of the job. Ability to work day, evening, and night shifts as needed.

2 years gerontology nursing experience but willing to train. Charge Nurse and leadership training is an asset. Preference will be given to staff who have completed CCHSS required education.
