In this highly diverse and challenging role, The RN works with a variety of stakeholders both internal and external to Alberta Health Services in the Edmonton Zone. RAH Surgical Booking Centre Registered Nurse is responsible for the coordination, triaging, management and monitoring of Operating Room (OR) schedule ensuring that OR time is utilized appropriately and efficiently. As well as work collaboratively with a variety of individuals including Surgeons, Medical Office Assistants, Management, Nursing, Pre-admission Clinics, Bed Management / Patient Flow, Surgery Inpatients and Extended Day Surgery (23 Hour Unit). With responsibility to oversee the daily OR slate/schedule. Monitoring booking information, anesthesia changes and requirements, equipment needs, and time management of thirty-two OR theaters in four distinct OR areas at the RAH. Monitoring of surgical wait lists and supporting general operational processes associated with OR booking, such as ensuring patients are screened and ready for surgery before their scheduled procedure date. The RN’s will help manage and guide processes associated with unscheduled orthopedic activity. Supporting and helping manage and guide processes associated with unscheduled (urgent, emergent) activity. Ongoing involvement in program, department, and Edmonton Zone (EZ) process and quality improvement initiatives, supporting ongoing assurance that booked surgical patients are appropriately ready, willing, and able to have surgery.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Maintenance of registration throughout the duration of employment is required. Minimum of three (3) years -related experience with a variety of surgical service specialties is required. Current OR Booking experience is required. Experience with surgical services scheduling practices should include GS, Orthopedics, Thoracic, Urology, Plastics, Bariatrics, OMFS, Otolaryngology, Ophthalmology, Arthroplasty, Neurosurgery, Spine, Gynecology and Obstetrics. Knowledge and skill with computer programs are required (Connect Care OR Scheduler, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Teams including File maintenance). Excellent planning, organizational and time-management skills are necessary. Maintenance and understanding of statistical information associated with OR scheduling. Proven communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a variety of individuals and provide clear, concise, accurate and timely information.

Baccalaureate degree in nursing is preferred. Ability to provide leadership for administrative team and facilitate communication between Surgeons, MOA’s, AHN’s and OR management. Possess strong process analysis, problem solving and decision-making skills with attention to detail. Ability to work independently, as well as participate as a member of a team to reach common goals.
