The Staff Nurse within Adolescent Mental Health Inpatient provides primary nursing responsibilities for adolescents with complex psychiatric difficulties, and support to their families. Staff Nurses are responsible for providing quality health care via the use of the nursing process and in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Current CRNA or CRPNA registration required. Previous in-patient/acute care psychiatric experience. Non-violent crisis intervention required.

Degree in nursing or psychiatric nursing. Brain Story certification. Child and adolescent experience is preferred. Within the last 5 years, 1-3 years proven skills and experience in psychiatric assessment, medical assessment and crisis intervention. Must have familiarity of medical capabilities within mental health and be able to provide treatment as directed, assess potential difficulties, and respond to medical emergencies within the mental health unit.
