Description
The Recreation Therapist II is a working lead position within the Young Adult Services (YAS) Recovery Supports team, to deliver recovery-oriented, developmentally appropriate services to young adults aged 16-25 experiencing addiction and/or mental health challenges. The program serves as a lead service provider for clients at LOCUS Levels 1 and 2 (recovery maintenance and low-intensity community-based care), and as a complementary service provider for clients at LOCUS Levels 3, 4, and 5, in partnership with primary and intensive service programs. The Clinical Lead provides functional leadership to a team that includes Recreation Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Rehabilitation Practitioners, Supported Employment Specialists, and Therapy Assistants. This includes guiding day-to-day clinical practice, supporting program development through planning and facilitation, and promoting service consistency across team roles. The team delivers individualized, recovery-oriented services that enhance occupational engagement and build life skills, with a focus on goals related to education, employment, volunteering, and meaningful social and recreational participation. Services are tailored to each client’s unique goals and preferences and are primarily delivered through group interventions, with individual supports offered as needed. In addition to providing client care, the Clinical Lead plays a key role in fostering strong clinical practice supports, promoting staff development, and nurturing a workplace culture grounded in continuous learning, reflective practice, and professional growth. Through mentorship, collaboration, and functional leadership, this position helps ensure a consistent standard of excellence in client care and team functioning within a complex and evolving service environment.
As a Recreation Therapist II, you will take a leadership role in ensuring that the level of therapeutic recreation practice in your clinical area is evidence based, patient-and family-centred and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will provide clinical leadership to ensure safe and efficient care as well as coordinate the assessment, treatment, education and care of the patient (client, resident). You will participate in program development to ensure effective delivery of services, including the development of protocols, forms, education, and quality improvement initiatives. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients¿ treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.
