This is a unique opportunity to provide service in the communities of Valleyview and Grande Cache, with the option to be based in Valleyview, Grande Cache or Grande Prairie with the support of a full Recreation team. The hospital in Valleyview boasts an excellent interdisciplinary team and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with the physicians, nursing staff, and other Allied Health disciplines in this facility while providing evidence based programming to LTC residents along with two Recreation Aides. The hospital in Grande Cache has four LTC beds, along with 15 DSL4 beds in the Whispering Pines Senior’s Lodge. This position is also supported by a part time Recreation Aide and collaborative programming with the the lodge. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

As a Recreation Therapist II, you will take a leadership role in ensuring that the level of therapeutic recreation practice in your clinical area is evidence based, patient-and family-centred and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will provide clinical leadership to ensure safe and efficient care as well as coordinate the assessment, treatment, education and care of the patient (client, resident). You will participate in program development to ensure effective delivery of services, including the development of protocols, forms, education, and quality improvement initiatives. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients¿ treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration for Professional Membership with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA). Minimum three years' related clinical experience as a Recreation Therapist.

Must be able to work independently and possess strong participative and collaborative skills including excellent communication skills Established ability to set priorities and independently follow through on expectations. Physically capable of pushing wheelchairs for an extended period of time and performing client transfers. Current BCLS-HCP (CPR) certification.

Experience with providing service in multiple sites is an asset. Experience with supervising both Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides is an assett.
