Recreation Therapist I

Reporting to the Unit Manager of the PLC 41 Med Psych Program, the Recreation Therapist I provides day to day therapeutic recreation activities for children and adolescents (ages 5-18) with complex mental health issues and medical co-morbidities (they may have associated developmental, cognitive and behavioral disorders as well). Service is provided in the context of family-centered care and may include liaison and collaboration with relevant community agencies, including schools. Responsibilities include recreational group facilitation, leisure assessments, participation in case conferences, staff meetings, professional development and program evaluation as required, student education, and other related duties as required. Appropriate documentation and statistical data collection is required.

As a Recreation Therapist I, you will be working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, providing comprehensive services for patients (clients, residents) within your assigned program or service area. You will ensure the level of therapeutic recreation practice is evidence based, patient-and family-centred, and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients¿ treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).

As per the provincial job description. Active registration with regulatory body ATRA.

Completion of Brain Story Certification Preferred. Collaborative Problem Solving Training preferred. Suicide Risk Assessment training 1-2 years experience working in a multidisciplinary mental health team. 1-2 years experience working with children and adolescents with mental illness.
