This front-line Public Health Inspector I position will have an assigned program area in the Calgary Zone. Possible functional areas include food, safe built, emergency preparedness, drinking water, recreational water, nuisance and communicable disease control. The successful candidate is responsible for protecting all Albertans, including disadvantaged populations by conducting a variety of inspections in their assigned environmental public health program area(s). Please note that if the successful candidate for this position is a current internal employee from another zone, there may be a longer than typical recruitment process. The start date is negotiable between the successful candidate and management. This competition may be used to fill future vacancies.

As a Public Health Inspector I and appointed Executive Officer under the authority of the Public Health Act, you will be responsible for the delivery of a comprehensive environmental public health program within an assigned geographical area. You will perform work duties in the interest of prevention, correcting or limiting the effects of environmental health hazards, whether physical, chemical or biological in nature, which may adversely affect the health of individuals or communities. You will support individual and community wellness through monitoring inspections, disease surveillance, consultation and enforcement of the Public Health Act and regulations within safe food, safe drinking water, safe recreational water, safe built environment and healthy environments.

Completion of bachelor's degree in Environmental Health or in a related field of study plus a recognized Environmental Health technical program. Completion of certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada). Active Member in Good Standing with the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI).

Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent judgment and decision-making skills. Ability to work independently and with a team. Well-developed computer skills. Candidates will be assessed on their experience, performance and qualifications. One year of experience as a public health inspector or environmental health officer in an environmental public health program.
