Description
The SHC has four key pillars of service: Collaborative Practice, Wellness, Patient and Family Centered Care, and Innovation. These pillars guide the development and delivery of service to all patients and families at SHC. The caseload for this Physiotherapist I position is within the Neurosciences Clinics at SHC, which includes the Neuromuscular, ALS, General Neurology, Neuro Cognitive, Epilepsy, Stroke Prevention, Neuro Vestibular, Multiple Sclerosis, Neuroimmunology, Movement Disorders, and FND clinics. The primary caseload for this position is with the Neuromuscular and FND clinic with coverage in any clinic as required. Under limited supervision from the Allied Health Assistant Manager this position is primarily responsible for the assessment & treatment of patients referred to the service as well as development, implementation & evaluation of individual treatment programs according to professional practice standards. There is a large Allied Health presence in the neurosciences clinics at SHC, which provides a unique opportunity for staff to work in interdisciplinary teams. Allied Health staff also do home/community visits to support patients in their community settings & to collaborate with other community programs. The PT team participates in regular ongoing professional development activities, program evaluation, peer evaluation and student supervision. This position works with a large interdisciplinary team and requires strong communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to demonstrate accountability, collaborate effectively, and maintain a continuous learning mindset is essential. The caseload for all positions within the Allied Health department may be subject to change based on operational considerations. This position is physically demanding and requires repetitive lifting and transferring of patients and or equipment.
As the Physiotherapist I (PT), you will provide therapeutic interventions to enable clients to achieve optimum physical function and independence in development, disease, disability, chronic conditions, illness and functional decline. You will provide intervention (i.e. prevention, triage, screening, assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, treatment, management, education, consultation, fostering resourcefulness, case management, referral and transition support to individuals, groups, populations and communities. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. The PT collaborates with patient(s) and families in determining, implementing and evaluating appropriate rehabilitation strategies. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich supports and engage in quality improvement; partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families and other stakeholders to advance services for their clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community; participates in peer mentoring; and supervises students. You may provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants, Therapy Aides and Provisional Physiotherapists.
Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program. Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta.
Basic Cardiac Life Support-Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) through Heart & Stroke Foundation. Clinical experience working as a Physiotherapist with adult populations in the area of chronic disease management, within the last 5 years.
Experience working as a PT in a multi-disciplinary outpatient setting, with adult neurological populations. Clinical Training/education in the areas of neurology or chronic disease management. LSVT Big certification Experience with short term disability, long term disability, return to work processes and paperwork. A minimum of 1-year experience working as a physiotherapist. Experience with Connect Care. Experience working with Therapy Assistants (TA) & interest in optimizing the role of TA's.
