Physiotherapist I - Regularized Relief/Float

The University of Alberta Hospital is one of Canada’s leading clinical, research, and teaching hospitals, treating more than 700,000 patients annually from western and northern Canada. The hospital offers a wide range of diagnostic and treatment services, including specialized adult services within cardiac sciences, neurosciences, surgery, medicine, orthopedics, renal, critical care, burns, transplant and trauma inpatient programs as well as a vast number of ambulatory clinics. This position is part of the centralized Rehabilitation and Allied Health Program responsible for the adult patient population and will support patients across the site. The University of Alberta Hospital is centrally located in the capital city, the heart of the academic campus, Old Strathcona and the beautiful river valley. Occasional weekend is required, the schedule may be negotiable, part time positions may afford up to full time hours on a casual basis.

As the Physiotherapist I (PT), you will provide therapeutic interventions to enable clients to achieve optimum physical function and independence in development, disease, disability, chronic conditions, illness and functional decline. You will provide intervention (i.e. prevention, triage, screening, assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, treatment, management, education, consultation, fostering resourcefulness, case management, referral and transition support to individuals, groups, populations and communities. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. The PT collaborates with patient(s) and families in determining, implementing and evaluating appropriate rehabilitation strategies. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich supports and engage in quality improvement; partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families and other stakeholders to advance services for their clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community; participates in peer mentoring; and supervises students. You may provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants, Therapy Aides and Provisional Physiotherapists.

Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program. Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta.

Experience with assessing and treating patients within the inpatient adult acute care population. Basic computer skills and the ability to navigate Netcare, Outlook and other electronic medical records. Some experience working in a critical care setting to include ICU such as neuro ICU, General systems or cardiac ICU. Knowledge and experience of pre- and post-surgery conditions and cardiorespiratory rehabilitation. Knowledge and experience of the application of the Destination Home philosophy and awareness of community resources in and around Edmonton. You are a reliable worker who is flexible in using your time effectively by prioritizing competing tasks. You are able to utilize strong judgment by analyzing facts, considering the impacts, and arriving at sound conclusions, seeking counsel when appropriate to effectively plan treatments and discharges from the hospital. You can work independently and as a part of the team, creating strong, effective interpersonal working relationships with peers and other caregivers. You have effective teaching skills for students and other professionals.

Experience in the following areas: Surgery, Trauma, Orthopedics, Transplants, Cardiac Sciences, Neurosciences, Critical Care, Burns, Pediatrics, Plastics, Rheumatology, General Internal Medicine preferred.
