Description
AHS is seeking a skilled and motivated Pharmacy Technician to join the pharmacy team at Sturgeon Community Hospital. You will work to full scope of practice and support safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care in all areas of medication distribution. Responsibilities include coordinating and performing sterile & non-sterile compounding, final checks of medications, inventory, and procurement activities. You will check and dispense patient-specific medication orders prepared by Pharmacy Assistants and other Technicians, prepare and check repackaged medications, and complete Patient BPMHs in a clinical setting. The role also involves mentoring Pharmacy Assistants and Technicians, training new staff, and precepting students while collaborating closely with pharmacists and interdisciplinary healthcare teams. You will adhere to NAPRA and ACP standards, oversee delegated tasks, and contribute to operational activities and quality improvement initiatives. Strong verbal and written English communication skills, professionalism, accountability, and attention to detail are essential. Physical demands include standing, walking, keyboarding, lifting, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and kneeling. The role includes handling hazardous medications using appropriate PPE. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, demonstrates reliability, critical thinking, adaptability, and a commitment to confidentiality, accuracy, and teamwork. You must be able to work independently and as part of a team, follow established procedures, and adapt to changing workflows and technology. As a Pharmacy Technician I, you will be responsible for the preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical products. You will receive and triage medication orders, compound and repackage medication and prepare sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products.
Completion of a CCAPP-accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program. Current, provisional, or transferable registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) as a Pharmacy Technician.
Physical demands of the role include regular lifting of up to 30 lbs. and occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. as well as frequent pushing and pulling and standing or sitting for extended periods. Experience with Willow Pharmacy (Connect Care), Oracle, Pyxis or Omnicell systems, and automated packaging equipment is also required. Membership in a Pharmacy Technician association (e.g., PTSA, CAPT, CSHP) is preferred. Applicants should have recent experience-a minimum of 1 year experience within the past 2 years-as a pharmacy technician in a hospital setting, including sterile and nonsterile compounding, inventory procurement, and completing Best Possible Medication Histories (BPMH).
