Description
Pharmacy Technicians will work with Pharmacy Assistants and Pharmacists working to their full scope of practice. Under limited supervision of the Operations Manager, Pharmacy Technicians work collaboratively within the health care team performing moderately complex duties, performing all aspects of drug distribution and inventory control to provide efficient daily operation of all departmental services leading to safe and quality patient care. Core duties may include, but are not limited to: distribution related tasks, repackaging, final product checking and release required by Regulated health professionals, non-sterile compounding, handling and storage of controlled substances, inventory control and management including receiving and purchasing of pharmaceuticals, emphasis on turn over to reduce outdating of medications, and provision of ward stock. Assisting with training of staff hires and precepting students. Obtaining information to facilitate medication reconciliation activities and clarifying discrepancies to support the provision of direct patient care as required. Maintaining department records, statistics and preparing reports as required. Building interactive relationships with all members of the healthcare team including communicating with nursing staff to clarify orders and requests, triaging drug information questions and distribution issues, providing zone support to program when required. Completion of internal validation programs as required for final product checking and medication compounding. Participating in special projects, performs other duties deemed necessary or assigned. As a Pharmacy Technician I, you will be responsible for the preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical products. You will receive and triage medication orders, compound and repackage medication and prepare sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products.
Completion of a CCAPP-accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program. Current, provisional, or transferable registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) as a Pharmacy Technician.
2 Years Regulated Pharmacy Technician with Alberta College of Pharmacists. Demonstrate proficiency in the following: communication (verbal and written), interpersonal abilities, organizational and problem-solving skills, ability to work independently and in teams as required, computer skills, continual personal quality improvement and lifelong learning. Must be in good physical condition as majority of shift involves typing, static positions, visual acuity, heavy lifting and grip strength, twisting, standing, crouching, bending, pushing, pulling, kneeling, walking and standing for extended periods of time. Demonstration of reliability required of essential work in healthcare.
Previous Hospital Pharmacy in rural, remote locations in North Zone an asset. EPIC & EPIC Inventory experience, acute & LTC, barcoding, compounding & repackaging, dispensing functionality, medication transfers, ordering, receiving, monitoring, par & opt, medication recalls and backorders. Non-Sterile Multi-ingredient & Risk Level Compounding Preparation & Certified. Preceptor for Technician Student Learning Rotations. Clinically Deployed experience - BPMH/Med Review trained.
