This multi-site pharmacy technician position reports to the Pharmacy Director and works closely with Operations Managers at the Leduc Community Hospital, Sturgeon Community Hospital and Westview Health Centre Pharmacy sites, with regular onsite shifts at each site. Duties and Responsibilities (with direction and support from management) may include, but are not limited to: Develops and maintains orientation and other training lists and plans for staff and students. Assists in the training and validation of all new and current staff in the major areas of CIVA, Non-Sterile Compounding, Pyxis and Connect Care and any other technical areas as determined by management. Creates and updates process documents related to recipes, worksheets and labels required in Pharmacy and supports pharmacy-related audits as required. Liaises with other pharmacy staff, care units and other front-line healthcare workers when required to provide front-line leadership in support of pharmacy project development and implementation. Functions as a Pharmacy Superuser for Pyxis and Connect Care and other medication information/distribution systems introduced to the pharmacy environment. Supports and implementing staff member education and orientation. Maintains department records, statistics and prepares reports as required. In addition to the training and project responsibilities, the successful candidate is expected to practice at full scope and will perform all aspects of drug distribution and preparation.

As a Pharmacy Technician I, you will be responsible for the preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical products. You will receive and triage medication orders, compound and repackage medication and prepare sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products.

Completion of a CCAPP-accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) as a Pharmacy Technician.

Must have a minimum of 3 years' hospital pharmacy experience in a large institution, or demonstrable equivalent experience is required. Demonstrable knowledge and experience with Pyxis is required. Demonstratable communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills is required. Demonstrable leadership skills and ability to work with mixed teams and independently. Strong understanding of drug distribution systems in high and low volume pharmacy settings. Demonstrable expertise with Microsoft 365 (desktop and online) and EPIC (Willow Inpatient).

Prior experience in project work (identification, development/planning and implementation of projects) and/or lead work is preferred. Thorough understanding of NAPRA and ACP Standards of Practice is preferred. Prior experience as a trainer and /or Super User is preferred. Previous experience with procurement and inventory is preferred.
