Description
Practicing within full scope, the Pharmacy Technician I performs all aspects of drug distribution to provide for the effective daily operation of all departmental services and programs leading to safe and effective patient care. Duties include medication preparation, compounding, repackaging and final product checking of sterile and non-sterile products, individual patient prescriptions, and ward stock. Providing guidance to and assisting with the training and orientation of staff and students. Providing clinical support through obtaining information to facilitate medication reconciliation activities and clarifies discrepancies and/or collects and organizes information to support the provision of direct patient care. Building interactive relationships with all members of the healthcare team including communicating with nursing staff to clarify orders and requests, triaging drug information questions and distribution issues. Maintaining a high standard of performance through completion of internal validation programs that assess proficiency in identified tasks and participating in special projects and programs as assigned. You will also maintain department records, statistics and prepare reports as required. As a Pharmacy Technician I, you will be responsible for the preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical products. You will receive and triage medication orders, compound and repackage medication and prepare sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products.
Completion of a CCAPP-accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) as a Pharmacy Technician.
Recent acute care hospital pharmacy technician experience, particularly in the area of sterile products, but also in medication selection, compounding, checking, and narcotics handling. Demonstrated ability to work in teams and independently. Demonstrated communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated computer and word processing skills.
Demonstrated working knowledge of Willow Pharmacy (Connect Care). Demonstrated clinical experience supporting direct patient care through medication reconciliation. Demonstrated experience with Pyxis. Membership in a pharmacy professional organization. Demonstrated commitment to lifelong professional learning.
