As a member of the Northwest Rural Pharmacy Team, the Technician will work with Assistants and Pharmacists working to their full scope of practice. This position will cover McLennan and Valleyview hospital pharmacy. There is the potential to provide coverage at other pharmacies within the Northwest zone if interested. Time and mileage will be paid for travel to locations outside of McLennan and Valleyview. Core duties may include Medication preparation, repackaging and final product checking non-sterile products, individual patient prescriptions and wardstock. Knowledge of purchasing, receiving, & inventory control of pharmaceuticals to minimize outdated medications, and provision of ward stock. Providing guidance to & assisting with the training and orientation of staff and students. Participating in special projects and programs as assigned. Maintaining department records, statistics and preparing reports as required. Building interactive relationships with all members of the healthcare team including communicating with nursing staff to clarify orders and requests, triaging drug information questions and distribution issues, providing zone support to program when required. Maintaining a high standard of performance through completion of internal validation programs that assess proficiency in identified tasks such as aseptic technique, computer order entry, and final product checking. Participate in special projects, performs other duties deemed necessary or assigned. Must be in good physical condition as majority of shift involves static positions, moderate lifting, crouching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods of time.

As a Pharmacy Technician I, you will be responsible for the preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical products. You will receive and triage medication orders, compound and repackage medication and prepare sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products.

Completion of a CCAPP-accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) as a Pharmacy Technician.

2+ Years Regulated Pharmacy Technician with Alberta College of Pharmacists. Demonstrate proficiency in the following: communication (verbal and written), interpersonal abilities, organizational and problem-solving skills, ability to work independently and in teams as required, computer skills, continual personal quality improvement and lifelong learning. Local Site knowledge or experience is an asset. Prior hospital experience with a variety of responsibilities. Epic Computer Software: 1+ yr experience dispensing, and inventory management. Membership with a pharmacy professional organization. Preceptor for student placements.
