As a Pharmacy Assistant in South Zone, you’ll play a key role in ensuring patients across Alberta receive safe, timely, and effective medication. This is a rewarding opportunity to support patient care while contributing to pharmacy operations in a fast paced, collaborative environment. Working under the supervision of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians, you will assist with medication repackaging, distribution, delivery, and inventory management. Daily tasks include selecting and labeling medications, operating repackaging equipment, replenishing patient specific carts and ward stock, and performing ordering and receiving duties. You’ll use automated and computerized systems to support accuracy and efficiency. Strong verbal and written English communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to confidentiality and teamwork are essential. You will also mentor and train other Pharmacy Assistants, new staff, and students. The ideal candidate demonstrates accuracy, professionalism, reliability, and the ability to succeed in a dynamic and continually evolving environment. You must be able to follow instructions, work independently and collaboratively, and adapt to changing workflows and technologies. Physical demands include visual acuity, keyboarding, heavy lifting and grip strength, twisting, crouching, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, and extended periods of standing and walking. As a Pharmacy Assistant, you will be responsible for the packaging, distributing, shipping medications and the management and replenishment of medication inventory levels under the general supervision of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
To ensure your skills and qualifications are considered, please attach a resume and cover letter with your application. Physical requirements include lifting up to 30 lbs. regularly and up to 50 lbs. occasionally, plus frequent pushing, pulling, and extended standing or sitting.
Graduation from a recognized Canadian pharmacy assistant program, or at least 12 months of recent experience (within the past 2 years) that includes inventory control, unit-dose repackaging, and medication picking is preferred. Experience in a hospital pharmacy or similar setting, particularly with automated packaging equipment and Willow Pharmacy (Connect Care), is considered an asset. Familiarity with pharmaceutical or medical terminology is also advantageous.
