As a member of the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Pharmacy Team, the Pharmacy Assistant supports Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists working to their full scope. Under limited supervision of the Operations Manager and direct supervision of a Pharmacist or Technician, duties include: medication distribution, delivery, repackaging, inventory management, non-sterile compounding, and clerical tasks. Core responsibilities: transport items between pharmacy, patient care areas, and departments; repackage and label medications; monitor, order, and receive inventory; manage ward stock including credits/debits; operate Automated Dispensing Cabinets (Omnicell); assist with narcotics distribution; print and distribute reports; clean and maintain equipment; complete records and filing; communicate unit issues to pharmacy staff; participate in hospital and quality assurance activities; assist in training new staff; maintain performance standards and complete mandatory certifications; perform other duties as required. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

As a Pharmacy Assistant, you will be responsible for the packaging, distributing, shipping medications and the management and replenishment of medication inventory levels under the general supervision of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.

Basic knowledge of purchasing, receiving, and inventory control of pharmaceuticals to reduce outdated medications. Strong communication, interpersonal, and time management skills. Able to follow oral and written instructions. Good organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Must demonstrate tact, courtesy, discretion, and respect for confidentiality. Fluent in English (written and verbal). Accurate, reliable, precise, cooperative, service-oriented, and self-motivated. Able to work independently and in a team. Adaptable to new technologies and changing workflows. Familiar with office equipment, unit dose packaging, and pharmaceutical compounding equipment. Physically fit for tasks involving heavy lifting, standing, crouching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, walking, and prolonged standing. Experience with Windows-based applications.

Graduate of a recognized pharmacy assistant program and/or recent hospital or retail pharmacy experience. Minimum 6 months experience with automated dispensing cabinets (e.g., Omnicell, Pyxis), inventory management, compounding (including reconstitution and unit dose repackaging), and packaging machines.
