Description
The Rural Casual Pharmacist performs the duties outlined below and is expected to work at multiple Calgary Zone Rural Sites as the need arises to cover any unforeseen absences. The Pharmacist will help support the provision of Pharmaceutical Services and Drug Distributions functions for Inpatients. The position will require active participation in multidisciplinary patient care teams, working with other health care professionals and the provision of drug information to Pharmacy, Nursing, Medicine, and other multidisciplinary team members. This position encompasses supervisory functions, committee & project work, and precepting and teaching of staff and students PLEASE NOTE: This position is located outside the Calgary City Limits and will cover the Calgary Zone Rural sites, including Canmore, Claresholm (CCMHA, CGH), Didsbury, High River, Black Diamond, Strathmore, and Vulcan. A vehicle is required as multi-site travel is expected.
As a Pharmacist I, you will be responsible for the safe, effective and efficient preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical services. You will manage medication therapy for patients, both initially and on an ongoing basis. In addition, you will provide assessment, intervention and resolution of potential or actual drug-related problems and oversee activities related to compounding and packaging.
Completion of Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Current, provisional or transferable registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) as a Pharmacist.
Advanced Prescribing Authority (APA) is required. Successful candidates not having APA will be expected to obtain it within 6 months of commencing this position, dependent on eligibility. Recent Pharmacy related experience in a hospital setting or in direct patient care providing comprehensive medication management services in a collaborative care model. Recent experience as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team. Experience with Connect Care/Epic computerized medication order entry, verification, and different drug distribution systems such as unit dose
Hospital/direct patient care experience within 5 years. Rural hospital experience an asset. Project/committee participation, supervisory & staff training an asset. Authorized to administer inections. Demonstrates critical thinking to solve problems, uses evidence-based medicine in direct patient care. Demonstrated good time management skills, Excellent communication & interpersonal skills, working independently & in team environments. Windows- based computer applications experience an asset.
