Alberta Health Services (AHS) is seeking a Pharmacist I to join the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) team. Located just north of Edmonton’s vibrant Ice District, the RAH is an 882-bed facility and Western Canada’s largest and busiest hospital, serving one-third of Canada’s land mass. In this role, you will manage medication therapy to ensure safe, effective, and appropriate use. Responsibilities include assessing patients for drug-related issues, optimizing treatment outcomes, supporting comprehensive medication management, participating in patient care rounds, collaborating with healthcare teams, and creating individualized medication plans with patients and families. Duties also include supporting distribution and dispensing of medications through order verification and coordinating special access or study drugs. This position offers opportunities for professional growth, drug stewardship, research and quality improvement, precepting students, mentoring staff, while practicing to full scope in a collaborative team environment. Strong verbal and written communication, proficiency with medication order systems, critical thinking, problem-solving, time management, and accountability are essential.

As a Pharmacist I, you will be responsible for the safe, effective and efficient preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical services. You will manage medication therapy for patients, both initially and on an ongoing basis. In addition, you will provide assessment, intervention and resolution of potential or actual drug-related problems and oversee activities related to compounding and packaging.

Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP).

Acute care hospital (greater than 500 beds) experience delivering proactive, integrated clinical practice is required (at least 1 year within the last 3 years).

Completion of an accredited hospital residency. Experience with vulnerable populations. Prescribing authorization. Authorization to administer injections. IV additive /PN knowledge. Precepting pharmacy students or residents within the last 2 years. Experience providing order verification in Epic. Remote order verification experience. Project or leadership experience. Membership in professional hospital pharmacy organization. Attendance at a hospital pharmacy conference in the last 2 years.
