Description
As an FMC pharmacist, your primary role will involve direct patient care in a multidisciplinary team environment on the Medical Teaching Unit (MTU). Additional responsibilities include drug distribution services (indirect patient care) as well as verifying parenteral nutrition. You will be expected to support drug information, education, research, and optimizing patient care through an evidence-based, person-centred approach. Leadership opportunities are available through precepting and teaching pharmacy residents, staff, and students. Additionally, pharmacists in this role will have ample opportunities to participate and contribute to site-based committees.
As a Pharmacist I, you will be responsible for the safe, effective and efficient preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical services. You will manage medication therapy for patients, both initially and on an ongoing basis. In addition, you will provide assessment, intervention and resolution of potential or actual drug-related problems and oversee activities related to compounding and packaging.
Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP).
Additional Prescribing Authority (APA) is required for this role. Pharmacists in this position practice to their full scope, including but not limited to prescribing, ordering lab work, and discharge medication counseling. Applicants must be clinically deployed with a minimum of two years of recent acute care hospital experience. At least one year of direct patient care experience within the last two years on a MTU or equivalent is required. The FMC Inpatient Pharmacy operates 24/7, applicants must be able to work all shifts.
Hospital residency, previous experience working in a multidisciplinary team and training/precepting is an asset. A strong ability to apply evidence-based medicine in direct patient care and a willingness to engage in ongoing learning would be beneficial in this role. We seek motivated, self-directed individuals committed to continuing competence. Previous project experience and committee work will be considered. Active CSHP membership is also considered.
