The Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Centre is an active 36 bed Acute Care and 50 bed Continuing Care facility, with the Breton Health Centre housing an additional 23 Continuing Care Beds. The facility’s Acute Care hosts a mix of General Medicine, Palliative and Rehabilitation beds. The Drayton Valley Pharmacy provides Pharmacy services to both Acute and Continuing Care patients at the site’s as well as to the Drayton Valley Emergency Department. As the Site Lead Pharmacist of the Drayton Valley Hospital Pharmacy Team, you will have the opportunity to provide high quality direct patient care. Drayton Valley provides a supportive, multidisciplinary environment for Pharmacists, where they have the opportunity to provide specialized and general medicine care to patients. The Pharmacy department strongly supports professional development and provides educational opportunities and support to facilitate pharmacist growth. The Pharmacy department is supported by a team of Pharmacy Technicians and Assistants working towards their full scope of practice.

As a Pharmacist I, you will be responsible for the safe, effective and efficient preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical services. You will manage medication therapy for patients, both initially and on an ongoing basis. In addition, you will provide assessment, intervention and resolution of potential or actual drug-related problems and oversee activities related to compounding and packaging.

Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP).

Successful candidates not having APA will be expected to obtain it within 6 months of commencing in this position if eligible. Pharmacy related experience in a hospital setting or in direct patient care providing comprehensive medication management services. Recent experience as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team. Experience with computerized medication order entry, IV admixture programs and different drug distribution systems such as unit dose and automated dispensing cabinets.

Additional Prescribing Authorization (APA) from the Alberta College of Pharmacist is an asset. Experience with project management and committee work. Demonstrated self-directed learning and continuing education. Demonstrated good time management including ability to switch priorities & multitask. Demonstrated excellent communication (both written and verbal) & interpersonal skills, good organizational and problem-solving skills. Able to work both independently & in a team environment.
