Description
Under the direction of the nurse in charge or in collaboration with the theater Registered Nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse Operating Room Technician (LPN ORT) assist with assessing, planning, implementing resources and evaluating the perioperative care of the patients in the surgical suite. The LPN ORT functions as a team member and works collaboratively with other disciplines within the surgical suite. The LPN ORT will act in accordance with hospital wide guidelines and policies within the limitations of the LPN ORT operating room roles.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
At least 1-year of operating room and surgical day care experience. Key understanding of aseptic techniques and sterile processing. Basic knowledge of surgical anatomy. Comprehensive knowledge of surgical terminology, and technical proficiency in instrumentation on operative procedures.
