Description
The Rockyview General Hospital Eye Clinic is a dynamic, high volume ambulatory clinic caring for over 33,000 patients per year. The Eye Clinic offers a variety of ophthalmic sub-specialties including oncology, glaucoma, retina, low vision, comprehensive, neuro-ophthalmology, cornea, adult strabismus, as well as an urgent eye clinic that operates 365 day per year. To support these subspecialties, we offer high quality, diagnostic testing including ultrasound, photography, visual fields and electrophysiology, and more. As a Technologist, you will be responsible for carrying out diagnostic procedures and evaluations according to the standard procedures of the clinic. You will work closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team including ophthalmic technical personnel, administrative staff, nurses, and physicians. The successful incumbent must have a thorough knowledge of ophthalmic diseases, be alert to any signs of potential risk to the patient and be able to take the necessary steps to ensure the patient’s safety. You will also be required to demonstrate proficiency in: multi-tasking/prioritization, stress tolerance and resiliency, promotion of a positive and respectful work environment, attention to detail, and professional communication with internal and external stakeholders. This position could end on or before targeted end date.
As an Ophthalmic Technician I, you will perform technical work involving the use of a variety of testing equipment to measure and evaluate visual field, retinal function and intraocular pressure in order to evaluate conditions affecting the eye. You will perform diagnostic Ophthalmic procedures under the direction of an Ophthalmologist. You will prepare patients for laser and minor procedures and instruct and educate the client/patient on procedure and equipment.
Certification by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO).
Minimum of 2 years’ experience working as a technician/technologist in a high volume clinic (hospital setting preferred). Proficiency in Humphrey visual field testing, ophthalmic photography and angiography, retinoscopy, refractometry, optical coherence tomography, specular microscopy, corneal topography. Experience with Goldman and Octopus field tests Skills in both posterior and anterior ophthalmic photography including corneal topography and endothelial bio-microscopy Skills in fluorescein angiography. Strong communication skills. Ability to work independently and a member of a multidisciplinary team. Experience and proficient using the following Microsoft programs: Word, Excel and Outlook. Experience performing ocular ultrasound within the past 6 months. Experience performing electrodiagnostic testing.
