This Occupational Therapist II (OT II) role offers a unique opportunity to provide comprehensive, client-centered care across multiple sites and areas of care. Based at the Westlock Healthcare Centre, you will support a diverse patient population while collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team. You will practice with a high degree of clinical autonomy, managing competing priorities, coordinating care across environments, and making informed decisions to optimize patient outcomes. The role provides a broad scope of practice where you will be directly involved in supporting safe transitions and enhancing quality of life for patients across the care continuum. OT IIs in this setting build meaningful relationships with patients and families, gain exposure to a wide variety of cases and strengthen their adaptability and problem-solving abilities. As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible for coordinating occupational therapy and other allied health clinical services within a program or service area. You will provide supervision to students and team members as assigned. You will work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team, serving as an integral member and providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will make day-to-day clinical decisions regarding patient and family needs related to assessment, intervention, discharge and follow-up. You will make decisions and provide guidance to team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient and effective care. You will ensure occupational therapy practice is evidence based and aligned with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, codes of ethics, and organizational policies and guidelines. You will coordinate the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area, monitor care delivery, identify service needs, assist with caseload management, complete chart audits, and provide follow-up and feedback to staff. You will participate in program development and operational planning and represent the department on committees and programs. You will make decisions regarding staffing level requirements, workflow and caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers. As assigned, you will carry out the roles of direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator and advocate within your program or service area.
Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program, or a bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program and related experience. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).
Certification in Basic Life Support - Healthcare Provider from the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
New grads are welcome to apply. Preferably one year experience in a rural generalist position and/or acute care. AADL Authorizer Status and experience with dysphagia and seating experience and/or AADL authorization are assets to this position, but not necessary.
