Are you passionate about advancing care for patients with acute neurological illness, neurosurgical conditions, and stroke? Join our team as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) supporting the 5G3 High Intensity Unit (HIU)/Stroke Observation Unit and 4A4 Neuro ICU. As a member of our specialized Neurocritical Care team, you will provide expert, patient-centered care to individuals with acute stroke, neurological emergencies, complex neurocritical care needs, neurosurgical conditions, and those undergoing neurovascular interventions. Using advanced assessment, diagnostic, and clinical management skills, you will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team and physician partners to deliver high-quality, evidence-informed care across the continuum of hospitalization. You will practice with a high degree of autonomy while providing comprehensive neurological assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management, supporting evidence-based stroke care, neurosurgical and neurovascular management, care transitions, and patient and family education. Beyond direct patient care, you will contribute to quality improvement, program development, research, and the advancement of best practices in neurocritical care. As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master's degree. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

A minimum of five (5) years of full-time acute care nursing experience in neuroscience, stroke, critical care, neurology, neurosurgery, or a related specialty is required. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, communication, leadership, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary neuroscience team. Within legislated scope of practice, the NP must be competent in advanced neurological assessment and management of patients with acute stroke, neurological emergencies, neurosurgical conditions, and complex neurocritical care needs. The NP must be able to independently prescribe, manage, and monitor pharmacological and therapeutic interventions using evidence-based practice to support neurological and critical care outcomes. The successful candidate must be capable of responding to clinical deterioration and medical emergencies, interpreting diagnostic findings, and adjusting treatment plans to optimize patient outcomes within a high-acuity environment. Participation in quality improvement, program development, and evidence-based practice initiatives within Neurocritical Care is expected.

Nurse Practitioner experience is preferred; however, new graduates with relevant neuroscience or critical care experience will be considered. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is an asset.
