Description
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a self-directed health practitioner who provides care to patients with MS, primarily in the ambulatory care setting. Occasionally, the NP will provide care in the community and on in-patient as well. Working in consultation with Neurologists and as part of the multidisciplinary team, the NP performs comprehensive assessments, diagnostics (including ordering and interpretation of test results), interventions (including prescription of medications), makes referrals, provides patient education, and provides ongoing chronic disease management and care coordination. The NP consistently displays a leadership role in utilizing best practice and is expected to participate in program development, evaluation, research, and clinical teaching activities. All duties and responsibilities of the NP will follow the guidelines developed by CRNA, UAH, and the practice protocols of the Multiple Sclerosis Clinic.
As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master's degree. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
As Required.
Working knowledge and experience with complex care patients. Experience with chronic disease management. Exposure to the care of patients diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in an Ambulatory setting. Strong leadership and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively. Ability to push, pull and lift as direct patient care is a part of this position.
