This is a prominent leadership role on a Medical Teaching Unit of 48 beds. Unit 46 is a high volume Internal Medicine unit that cares for a patient population that is highly acute and complex. Unit 46 supports multiple teams of resident physicians, medical students and other learners. The Unit 46 Nurse Clinician is a knowledgeable clinical resource for Unit 46, who provides coaching and mentoring of unit and multidisciplinary staff for the benefit of their professional development and for optimal patient care. The Nurse Clinician is responsible for facilitating optimal flow for patients within the unit, site and within the organization for daily and long term needs. Familiarity with organizational and site flow initiatives is critical for success in this role. The Nurse Clinician performs efficient facilitation and problem solving to ensure timely patient care occurs for patients, including daily multidisciplinary bullet rounds. The NC ensures coordination and respectful communication between multi-disciplinary team members as well as the needed communication for successful discharge of patients to community or alternate destination from hospital. Additionally, the NC is responsible for all standard RN duties including unit staffing and all responsible activities needed to ensure safe and effective patient care.

As a Nurse Clinician (NC), you will be responsible for the coordination of an interprofessional team, in the provision of quality patient (client, resident) care in order to meet the operational priorities and requirements within a clinical setting. You will use an integrative leadership approach in assisting, planning, implementing and evaluating care needs, while assuming responsibility for staff assignments, patient flow and clinical resources. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Minimum 2 years on Unit 36/46 or of similar acuity in a frontline RN role, with demonstrated strong clinical assessment and time management skills. Current Unit 36/46 charge experience on all shifts or on another acute complex unit within the Medicine portfolio. Successfully shown formal leadership. Mentoring Preceptor students and Orientees. Must demonstrate adequate and a respectful coaching skillset. Demonstrates professionalism. Willingness to develop relationships with all team members. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and mentorship of Unit 46 staff. Demonstrated respectful and excellent communicator. Demonstrated strong leadership skills. Proficiency navigating InSite, accessing nursing policies and procedures. Demonstrated computer proficiency required.

Baccalaureate in Nursing preferred; an exceptional candidate without BN may be considered on merits of other superior qualities and experience. Knowledgeable in AHS policies. Communication and Leadership courses an asset. Experience working with patient flow within AHS an asset.
