Rural Addiction and Mental Health is looking for an experienced, skilled, enthusiastic and dynamic team member to fill the position of a permanent 0.8 FTE Mental Health Therapist. The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of a continuum of services, including behavioural health care and shared care services. The successful candidate will complete screenings, assessments, treatment planning, harm reduction, case management and therapeutic interventions in individual and group settings. This person will maintain accurate and appropriate documentation on client files in a timely fashion and able to complete referrals to various treatment programs. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, allied professionals and community agencies to provide seamless service to clients and their significant collaterals in various stages of recovery. This person requires a high degree of clinical skill and experience as well as exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to function independently in a non-AHS work setting, as they will bridge services between medical clinics, and other AHS Addiction and Mental Health programs. This person will complete formal and informal consultation and education for physicians and other staff in medical clinics regarding the patients and services available for them, including in-services on a variety of addiction and mental health topics as requested. As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

A minimum of one year’s experience providing a full spectrum of mental health therapy services in a concurrent setting. Authorization to do mental health psychosocial intervention is required. Extensive knowledge and familiarity with a strength-based, client-centered approach. Comfortable with computers and electronic health record formats and able to type well enough to complete own clinical documentation.

Extensive knowledge of a variety of therapeutic modalities, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, narrative therapy, trauma recovery treatments, and motivational interviewing is preferred. Suicide Prevention, Risk Assessment and Management. Standard First Aid. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
