Description
As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the Mental Health Therapist Provincial will provide On Call crisis intervention and assessment services to adults and children who present in the Emergency Room in Olds, Innisfail or Sundre with psychiatric disorders. Utilizing a variety of treatment modalities, you will provide risk assessment and brief therapy services. Additional responsibilities will also include working in partnership with and providing consultation to community agencies and physicians in the continuum of mental health care. Employees must be readily available from the ED they are responding to. Response to call outs must be done without undue delay, which means they are able to pick up and head in within a few minutes of being called and arrive at corresponding hospital in within 60 minutes travel time (no more than 100km). This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.
Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
Minimum two years’ related experience with all ages of clients experiencing mental health problems. Working knowledge of suicide and crisis intervention. Working knowledge of mental health problems and evidence-based interventions. Demonstrated assessment skills and dedication to client focused care. A working knowledge of medications as related to psychiatric issues. Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
Working knowledge of community and mental health resources. Training and/or experience in suicide and crisis intervention: Suicide Risk Assessment Certificate or equivalent. Training and/or experience with Connect Care.
