This position offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced mental health professional to temporarily join the interdisciplinary team working at both Hope and Wellness and the TIES Program. The primary role of the Mental Health Therapist (MHT) on our teams is to support client’s recovery journey virtually and in-person through skills-focused, psychoeducational and psychotherapy group treatment. The MHT will deliver group-based intervention utilizing a Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and a psychodynamic approach. Many clients you’ll be working with are looking to advance their personal recovery journey through learning and applying emotion regulation skills and participating in an insight orientated process group. Some clients may require advanced assessment to coordinate care with relevant addictions and mental health service providers within AMH. As such, you will be able to implement a wide range of DBT, CBT, ACT treatment interventions and develop collaborative comprehensive recovery/treatment plans, monitor progress and update care plans based on client outcomes, team recommendations, and goal attainment. The MHT is also expected to have an in-depth understanding of the Addictions and Mental Health referral pathway for assessment and care coordination as appropriate. Our team focuses heavily on enhancing clinical skills for ongoing high-quality care, with an emphasis on training, clinical supervision, and team building. This position is dually located at our 99th street location and the Edmonton Community Health Hub North. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy, Diploma, or degree in Psychiatric Nursing, diploma or degree in nursing, with a related master’s degree including training in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Group facilitation skills, DBT and CBT training and concurrent capability are requirements for this position. Combination of training and experience; preference will be given to those who have DBT training. Interested candidates are expected to have strong technical skills to navigate Zoom and relevant software proficiently to optimize client engagement, and strong interpersonal and de-escalation skills as most of our clients seek support with emotion regulation.

A minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with individuals with mental health and/or addiction concerns. Previous experience and/or training in facilitating skill-based groups and psychotherapy. Experience utilizing Connect Care is considered an asset for this position.
