Description
The Mental Health Therapist (MHT) is responsible for providing specialized mental health assessment and consultation services to clients within the ODP/NTS program. This is an advanced clinical position providing assessment, provisional diagnosis, treatment and follow-up to an addiction and mental health population, specifically dealing with concurrent issues associated with OUD and trauma. The Mental Health Therapist may also complete case management and coordination tasks. They collaborate with health care and community service providers to ensure a continuum of addiction and mental health care in the community. Knowledge of community resources is important to provide appropriate referrals as required. This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.
Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
Equivalent education and experience will be considered and is defined as: Bachelor's degree in social work with Psychosocial Intervention Authorization; bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy with experience in mental health assessment and intervention; Bachelor of Science in Nursing with experience in mental health assessment and intervention; Diploma or bachelor's degree in Psychiatric Nursing with experience in mental health assessment and intervention. Competency in concurrent capable practice within addiction and mental health.
Connect Care experience. Solid working knowledge of the continuum of Addiction and Mental Health services available within Alberta Health Services, and the range of community-based services that address the social determinants of health.
