Description
Under the direction of the Care Manager of CYF the Mental Health Clinician will work as a part of the centralized intake team, collaborating on the delivery of care for individuals, families and/or communities seeking support, direction and/or intervention related to addiction and/or mental health related concerns. The Mental Health Clinician will be responsible for the screening, navigation, intake, clinical assessment, crisis management, crisis intervention of clients with addiction and mental health conditions. Work will be done via telephone or in clinic. Responsibility to ensure the care needs identified are put in place and offered. The Clinician will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members, and the clients support system, as required, to determine a plan of care - that is unique to each, based on the presenting problems/issues. Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, critical thinking, and de-escalation skills required. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews, and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Registered Occupational Therapists.
Completion of a master's degree in psychology; a bachelor's degree in social work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention; a master's or bachelor's degree in occupational therapy with similar educational components; a bachelor's degree in nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling; or a bachelor's degree in psychiatric nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
Registered Nurse, Registered Psychiatric Nurse, Registered Social Worker, Registered Psychologist, and Occupational Therapist. Social Workers and Psychologists. Must be fully registered with the appropriate professional body under the Health Professions Act: Alberta College of Social Work. College of Alberta Psychologists. College of Registered Nurses. College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses. Alberta College of Occupational Therapists.
Minimum 3 years direct experience working in the addiction and mental health field working with children and youth. Community and crisis experience is required. Strong knowledge of addictions and mental health disorders, experience in using the DSM - V diagnostic system. Connect Care and CaLocus experience an asset.
