The Community Geriatric Mental Health (GMH) team is a multidisciplinary group supporting older adults with addiction and mental health concerns to live independently in their home. The team includes mental health clinicians from a variety of clinical backgrounds and psychiatrists who specialize in geriatric mental health and addictions. The Community GMH team provides psychiatric assessment; goal directed individual therapy and group based therapy options for clients. The Mental Health Clinician supports individual clients in the community through a recovery based model. The successful candidate skills and attributes include: Strong foundation in community mental health, knowledge of mental health system and resources within RA and Calgary, experience working in a multidisciplinary team, ability to set priorities and manage time effectively, flexibility in scheduling and adaptability to changes in role and processes, displays strong initiative, strong verbal and written communication skills. The Short Term Assessment and Treatment (STAT) is often utilized when a complex referral is received, and it is unclear exactly what service the client requires. The STAT clinician meets with client to determine what is required, liaising with all the services that are providing service that client or lack of services that would be required. The STAT clinician has access to psychiatry as well as an outreach worker. Often referrals are made from psychiatrists following a psych consult. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Occupational Therapists.

Completion of one of the following programs: a Master's degree in Psychology, a Bachelor's degree in Social Work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention, a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy with similar educational components, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling, or a Bachelor's degree in Psychiatric Nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Work or a Master’s degree in Psychology. Full registration with a professional college under the Health Professions Act. Provisional registration not appropriate in this role. Authorization to Perform Restricted Psychosocial Interviews with the ACSW. At least 2 years’ experience in Mental Health care providing assessment and therapeutic intervention to patients with acute and/or chronic mental health disorders in the last 5 years. At least 2 years’ experience in Geriatric Mental Health required within the last 5 years. At least 2 years’ experience in Community Health Care required within the last 5 years. Knowledge of Mental Health legislation. A demonstrated track record of developing effective relationships with diverse professionals required. Group therapy experience required.
