The Ambulatory Manager, Pharmacy Services is a key leadership role reporting to the Director, Pharmacy Services (Calgary Zone). This position is accountable for the overall performance of pharmacy services across designated sites and programs, ensuring alignment with Pharmacy Program and Zone strategies and AHS priorities. The Manager provides operational and strategic leadership supporting core pharmacy functions, including direct patient care, medication distribution systems, service planning, and practice research. This role leads pharmacy personnel, fosters a collaborative, patient-centered culture, and ensures safe, high-quality service delivery in a complex, unionized healthcare environment. Key responsibilities include people management and workforce optimization; recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and professional development of pharmacy staff; and resolution of human resource and labor relations issues with senior leadership and Human Resources. The Manager oversees outpatient clinical and distribution systems, allocates resources aligned with clinical practice models, and leverages data, metrics, and KPIs to improve workflows and system performance.

The role is accountable for financial stewardship, including budgeting, forecasting, and identifying efficiencies in staffing, equipment, and operations. The Manager ensures compliance with federal and provincial legislation, supports accreditation and certification processes, and promotes a culture of quality improvement, safety, and just culture. Through strong collaboration and communication, the Manager engages physicians, patient care leaders, and interdisciplinary teams, contributes to committees, and supports development and execution of strategic and operational plans aligned with Pharmacy Program objectives and organizational priorities.

Registered as a Pharmacist with the Alberta College of Pharmacy. Ideally 3-5 years in a hospital pharmacy role, ideally in an organization of similar size, complexity and diversity. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development.

Minimum of 2-3 years of progressive informal leadership experience in a hospital setting. Proven ability to communicate effectively with strong organizational, interpersonal, and influencing skills. Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including analytical thinking, sound decision making abilities, coaching, mentoring, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Experience managing change and developing innovative solutions to complex and diverse challenges. Strong skills in managing human, financial, and physical resources within a healthcare environment. Demonstrated success in building partnerships and achieving organizational goals, ideally within a unionized environment. Established track record of developing and maintaining effective relationships with internal teams and external working partners (i.e., Health care providers, public agencies, government bodies, regulatory colleges). Effective leadership within a collaborative team environment with the ability to motivate and engage others toward shared objectives. Proven ability to plan, organize, and manage both short- and long-term projects with a focus on delivering high quality, customer centered results.

Proficiency in Excel. Knowledgeable in quality assurance activities and responds to quality improvement initiatives. Demonstrates professional behavior and attitude while completing work. Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals within an organization and ideally managing within a unionized sector.
